February 2002
February saw the start of the bench project. My ageing Workmate wasn't going to be up the task and working on the floor kills my back. The difficulty is, you need a bench in order to build a bench. So the design had to be self jigging. Fortunately, the first batch of timber was straight and true so the frame went together square. The second batch of timber was another story.
My tolerance to dust has become very low. Installing a rawl plug leaves me feeling like I've collected a cold. A good respirator is going to be essential if I'm to enjoy this project. I've chosen a 3M 6000 series half mask and use 2135 particulate filters. If you need convincing about respirators read Steve Wieczorek's article which appeared in 'June 1987 Falco Builders Letters'.
