March 2012

First job this month was to turn over the tender, sand the wood trim and varnish it for UV protection.

Drilling off the keel rubbing strip With the tender back on the slipway it was time to get back to the main project and fit the keel rubbing strip. I procured 4m of 30mm x 50mm Iroko as recommended by my friend Pat and proceeded to cut this to length. The forward section had to be profiles as the keel reduces in width in stages as it approaches the stem. Having done this all that remained was to drill off the fixings.

Keel strip bonded to the keel The simple overlapping joint The two lengths have a simple overlap joint and the whole lot is bonded to the keel using Sikaflex 292
